Indian Hills Tennis

Indian Hills has been selected the top tennis program in Alabama, “Tennis Facility of the Year” in 1989 and 2000 by the Alabama Tennis Association.

Indian Hills provides a full range of tennis programs: private and semi-private lessons, cardio tennis, social mixers, men’s and women’s USTA teams, Junior Team Tennis, weekend round-robins and Net Generation tennis for our future stars.

IHCC annually hosts charity tournaments including Keith’s Classic (benefiting local charities), member tournaments, USTA tournaments for our juniors and the largest men’s tournament in Alabama – the Pritchett-Moore Men’s City Invitational.

We have nine lighted clay courts, a state-of-the-art tennis pro shop featuring men’s and women’s locker rooms, offices, plasma television plus a full-service retail and repair area. We carry Nike, Head, Wilson, Babolat and Maui Jim products and our staff is eager to take care of all your tennis needs. 24 hour racquet stringing and special same day stringing upon request.

The Indian Hills tennis staff are ready to make tennis your sport of a lifetime. From our extensive lesson program, to helping find a fourth for your next match, to finding that special tennis gift, IHCC has it all!

Registration

All members and their guests must sign in at the Tennis Pro Shop before playing. Courts will be assigned in order of sign-up for a period of 1.5 hours and must be vacated promptly when all courts are full, as others are waiting to play. You are welcome to stay longer if no one is waiting for a court. You can also reserve for a shorter period if you wish.

Val Goncalves Jr.

Director of Tennis

Val, RSPA Elite Professional, is a leader in the racquet sports industry with over 15 years of experience developing and elevating programs across tennis, pickleball, and padel. Previously serving as the Head Racquets Professional at Watersound Club, Val directed racquet operations for more than 10,000 members, leading a team of 15+ staff and created programs that doubled participation across 22 courts and 3 locations.

Val holds an MBA in Supply Chain Logistics Management from the University of West Florida and is a Certified Director of Racquet Sports (University of Florida).

Beyond the court, Val contributed to the community by serving as President of the RSPA Northwest Florida Region, Lead Coach with Love Serving Autism and as former Head Tennis Coach at East Hill Christian School. He is also a proud Division II National Champion with the University of West Florida and served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the men’s team.

Val’s heritage and professional journey reflect the richness of multicultural leadership, heart of service, excellence, and dedication to growing racquet sports and building communities.

Maci Goggans

Merchandising Manager and Junior Development Professional

Maci is a former Alabama Junior Player of the Year, #1 Junior in Alabama and top 35 ranking in the South. She played Junior Fed Cup as #1 player for Alabama. Maci came to us from the Pensacola C.C. and is in charge of our IHCC Jr Program.
She loves tennis and working with kids!

Clay Wilson

Operations Manager and Assistant Teaching Professional

Clay, a staff member since 2000, was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. After graduating from Central High School, he earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama.  He served for four years as the manager for the UA Men’s Tennis Team and as an assistant coach for the Tuscaloosa Academy boy’s and girl’s tennis teams for 5 years, winning 5 straight state championships.

Clay has been a USPTA Certified teaching Pro for 12 years.

Drake Woodard

Assistant Teaching Professional

Drake brings strong, competitive experience and a passion for player development to the IHCC tennis program. A former #1 varsity player in 6A for two consecutive years and a two-time Times Daily/Local Player of the Year, Drake has a proven background as a top junior athlete.

Currently studying Physical Education at The University of Alabama, Drake blends academic expertise with four years of coaching experience to deliver thoughtful, effective instruction for players of all ages. He is also PTR Level 1 Certified, ensuring high-quality and technically sound coaching.

Donnie Ellis

Visiting Teaching Professional

Our visiting teaching pro, Donnie Ellis, serves as the Director of Tennis at Selma Country Club, bringing decades of experience and statewide recognition to our program. A USPTA Professional of the Year (2010) and Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame inductee (2012), Donnie has also led USTA Alabama as President and achieved top state rankings across multiple divisions. His expertise and leadership make him a cornerstone of the region’s tennis community.
